(1) General MAP Questions:
1.) Who can Sign Up for a Map Training?
EBTDC trainings are only open to staff at OMH-licensed, public, child-serving agencies/programs in New York State
2.) My cases are complicated, can I still use MAP?
Yes. MAP is a tool that can be used for a wide variety of cases, both simple and complex. The main purpose of using MAP is to improve clinician-client interactions by implementing evidence-based treatment into practices. By utilizing MAP in your practice, you will be able to better track client progress and provide better services for any case you may have
3.) My clients are only adults; can I still come to the training?
No. The MAP Training Program focuses on providing training to those who have child and/or adolescent caseloads. We do not recommend those who only have adult clients (18+ years) to participate in training, as it will not be useful or practical for the clinician
4.) I am a clinical director/supervisor and I don’t have a caseload. Can I still apply for the training?
Yes, directors and supervisors with no caseload can apply for training if they are attending with clinicians to supervise. However, if you have no caseload and will be attending alone, it is suggested you wait until a future round when you can attend with clinicians to supervise
5.) Does a clinical director/supervisor need to participate in training?
No. Clinicians may apply to attend training without a supervisor present. However, we have found that groups of clinicians that attend with supervisors experience higher rates of success in completing the program
6.) How many participants are required/needed for the training?
There is no set number of participants required to apply for the training. You may send as many participants as you’d like from your agency/program
7.) What kind of participants should I register for the program?
Individuals best suited for this program are those who have some experience with technology (basic computer skills, Microsoft Office, using the internet) and are enthusiastic about learning new strategies to implement in daily practice. However, we are more than willing to work with any individual who wants to attend and complete this program
8.) How can I get more information about the program and training logistics?
Please visit our website – updated daily – for more information about the training program and additional resources. You may also contact the EBTDC MAP Team with any questions you may have
9.) Where can I register for the Informational Webinar?
You can visit this page on our website for Informational Webinar registration dates and instructions. All registrations for events are done online
10.) Do I need to attend an Informational Webinar to apply for training?
No. Informational webinars are not mandatory for applications to training
11.) I filled out the online application for the MAP Training Program but received no response. What now?
We send a confirmation email to every applicant of the program. If you did not receive a confirmation email from a member of our team, then the application did not go through. Please contact Elena Conte
12.) What is the MAP pre-training webinar?
The pre-training webinar provides important information about the content of training. It introduces the MAP tool and how Microsoft Excel will be used for our program. *Please note: The pre-training webinar differs from an informational webinar and is mandatory for all participants in the program
13.) How do I register for the MAP pre-training webinar?
All registered participants will be sent information, via email, about the pre-training webinar after they have been approved for training.
14.) Does the MAP training offer Continuing Education Credits (CEU’s)?
Yes, the MAP Program offers 32 FREE CEU credits to Licensed Social Workers, Licensed Mental Health Clinicians, and Licensed Marriage & Family Therapists who complete the entire program; click here for more information about getting your CEU's for MAP
15.) My agency/program cannot make this round of training. Can we automatically sign up for the next round of training?
No. You must submit a new application for every round of training you are interested in. Applicants are not automatically signed up for future rounds of training. You may, however, request notifications about future rounds of training from our team.
16.) My agency/program signed up last year for training. Do I still need to submit a new application if I am interested in sending new staff for the next round of training
Yes. You must submit a new application for every round of training you are interested in. Previously registered agencies are not automatically signed up for future rounds of training. We will need the most updated information on the program and staff that will be sent to the training, which is why we ask you to fill out a new application for every round you are interested in attending.
(2) MAP Training Requirements:
1.) What do I need for the training?
A laptop with Wi-fi capability and access to Microsoft Excel, an open mind, and a positive attitude
2.) Do I need to use a work laptop or personal laptop?
You can use either a work laptop or a personal laptop – whichever has Wi-fi capability and access to Microsoft Excel.
3.) My laptop does not have Microsoft Excel; can I use a mimic program (i.e., Numbers)?
No. You must use Microsoft Excel. The documents used in training are not compatible with other programs.
4.) What if I don’t have Microsoft Excel?
If you cannot access the program through your agency’s IT department, then please contact one of our team members to address this issue.
5.) What are the requirements for the program?
For NYS Clinician Certification, you must:

4.) How do I receive my CEU’s?

(5) MAP Bi-Weekly Consultations:
1.) When are the bi-weekly webinar consultations?
These webinar consultation schedules are determined during the in-person training. If you have a strict schedule with only certain time slots available, please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.
2.) Who should sign up for the bi-weekly webinar consultations?
The Bi-Weekly Webinar Consultations are only open to participants in the MAP Training Program. We recommend clinicians from the same program to choose the same time slot. We also recommend supervisors attending with clinicians to join a time slot together, as this will be the best way for participants to utilize the webinars
3.) How do I access the webinars?
The webinars are conducted through WebEx. You will receive an email invitation to the webinar a day before your scheduled webinar. This email will contain all of the log-in instructions and information.
4.) What do I need to access the webinars?
You will need both a computer and a phone to access the webinar successfully
5.) I can’t get on the WebEx Consultation.
Please make sure your browser allows pop-ups and has the Citrix Add-on downloaded. Try a different browser if one does not work. If you are still experiencing difficulty, please contact Elena Conte.
6.) I can’t call-in with my phone.
Please make sure you are entering in the information correctly. You must enter the conference number, the meeting number, and your caller ID before being connected to the call.
7.) What do we discuss on the webinar consultations?
The webinar consultations are used as a support tool for your training. Every two weeks, you will be asked to send your dashboards to your webinar leader. Your leader will then share their screen and walk through editing your dashboard and discussing your case. Practices, measures, and other common elements are discussed during the consultation. Later webinars also cover how to fill out the MAP Therapist Portfolio. Lastly, these webinars are also governed by what you want to discuss. If you want to cover a specific topic, feel free to address this with your webinar leader.
8.) How many webinar consultations do I need to attend
You must attend at least 6 webinars to receive the required number of consultation hours. This means you may only miss 1 or 2 webinars without making it up.
9.) What if I need to miss a webinar consultation?
Please notify the team in advance if you are planning to miss a webinar consultation. Please reach out to the team to schedule a make-up call to maintain your progress in the program
10.) My schedule has changed and I cannot make my consultations anymore. What do I do?
Please contact Elena Conte to problem-solve any conflicts about schedules and bi-weekly webinars. We are more than willing to find an alternative solution in order to help you with your training.

7.) Can I cut and paste information?
The only information you will cut and paste onto your dashboard will be the PWEBS search for your client. No other information should be cut and pasted – you must manually enter each point of information.
8.) What if I want to select more than 5 measures?
You may only track up to 5 measures for your client on the “Data Progress” page. You may track more on the “Notes” page but will not be able to add additional tabs on the “Data Progress” page.

Please ask your trainers during your consultation webinars to discuss possible measures for your clients.
11.) I don’t know how to access the measures you suggested we use.
Our Measurement Resource List is accessible on our website and on PracticeWise, on the “NY EBTDC” page. This resource lists all of the measures we’ve mentioned throughout training and how to access them online.
12.) My measures are not graphing correctly.
There are multiple reasons as to why your graph is not presenting correctly.
- You may have a corrupted Excel file – try to transfer your data onto a new dashboard and see if it plots correctly
- The equations on the sheet may have been erased – try to transfer your data onto a new dashboard and see if it plots correctly
- A date may have been entered incorrectly. Example: 05/15/2015, 05/22/2013, 05/29/2015
- Letters and words may have been entered into the cells, which only registers numbers – take out any words that accompany the results. Ex) 25 hours, 3 points, 7 days; instead: 25, 3, 7.
13.) Why do we do a PWEBS search?
PracticeWise Evidence-Based Services (PWEBS) is used to search for the treatment summary for your case. The search summarizes research results and treatment protocols that are most related to your case.
14.) How do I do a PWEBS search?
You conduct a PWEBS search through PracticeWise. Click PWEBS under MY SERVICES. Select “Youth Treatments” from the left hand menu and input the data for your search.
15.) What do I search in PWEBS?
For your search, please specify these categories: Strength of Evidence, Problem type, Age (or Grade), Gender, and Race or Ethnicity.
