Our One Day Intensives are an exciting opportunity to take a deeper dive into specific clinical topics.  These trainings take place virtually. They are free of charge to attend; note that only staff at OMH-licensed, public, child-serving agencies/programs in NYS may attend.

ONE DAY INTENSIVES (ODI) 
Organizational Skills Training for Children with ADHD and Related Problems in Practical Executive Functioning; Use of the Full Program and In Combination with Methods for Other Treatment Targets
September 18th, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
6 CEUs for psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists, LMHCs, LMFTs, & LCATs **

This workshop will provide training on efficaciously administering the foundations of the fully-tested protocol for assessing and addressing Organization, Time Management, and Planning deficits that hinder children’s functioning in many activities at home and at school and contribute to family conflict.  It will emphasize engaging youth, parents, and teachers in a collaborative process to build skills in: supportive parent behavior management, self-motivation, tracking assignments, managing materials, time management, planning, and study skills. In addition to didactics, active learning techniques, including role-plays and exercises, will be utilized to allow participants to fully understand the assessment approaches, the treatment components, and the exact session content.  Additionally, following years of clinical application and supervision of clinical application, Dr. Gallagher will discuss ways to incorporate elements of OST in the treatment of children with concerns in multiple areas. Thus, the workshop will help with the flexible application of OST in a wide variety of cases.

Understanding & Supporting Transgender Youth

This training will help therapists and other patient-facing clinicians to understand the basics of gender affirming care and the specific needs and concerns of transgender and gender diverse youth. Topics covered will include: inclusive language & spaces, history and context of gender affirming care for transgender youth, mental health concerns & interventions, and practical suggestion for clinicians an other support staff who work with trans youth.

This training program will covers a wide range of topics related to assessing and treating trauma in youth:
  1. General Assessment Guidelines: General assessment principles that can be applied across various domains.
  2. Tailored Trauma Assessment: How to conduct trauma assessments specific to the needs of young individuals.
  3. Case Conceptualization: Effective case conceptualization, helping professionals better understand and plan for individual cases.
  4. Building Safety Plans: Practical guidance on creating safety plans and includes hands-on exercises to reinforce learning.

ASD and School-Based Interventions
9:00 am - 2:00 pm (5 CEUs) 
Are you working with students with ASD? Autistic youth can bring so much diversity and creativity to any school system but many times require particular therapeutic approaches and certain adjustments in well-established interventions in order to thrive and to meet their full potential. During this workshop participants will review ASD symptoms as they frequently present in school-aged population, and will learn the theory and practice of evidence-based strategies to prevent and manage disruptive behaviors. We will also review intervention elements that have been shown to be effective when teaching Autistic students communication and social skills, and will discuss and practice using case studies.

Supporting Needs of Autistic Youth

DESCRIPTION
Children and adolescents on the autism spectrum are commonly served by community mental health therapists and have unique needs.  Appropriate intervention is contingent upon identifying and understanding an individual’s full clinical picture. During today’s intensive, we review assessment of autism and co-occurring mental health challenges, symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, strategies for managing dysregulated behaviors, approaches to support social skills growth, and methods for adapting treatments to telehealth.

Emotion Regulation in the Pandemic

This training will focus on how to help clients identify, understand, challenge, and cope with unwanted or extreme emotions, with particular attention to the current context of the pandemic.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

This training will cover school avoidance and refusal behavior, including differentiating school refusal from truancy, discussing the various causes of school refusal behavior, and how to intervene with the child, family, and school to get the best result.

  2. Recognize the clinical manifestations of School Refusal
