Since coming to New York State from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), Dr. Hoagwood has worked to advance knowledge about effective implementation strategies for improving the uptake of evidence-based practices (EBPs) in the New York State's public mental health system for children. She has received substantial federal funding to study effective implementation of EBP's within the state mental health systems, including this NIMH-funded ALACRITY center (P50MH113662), called the IDEAS Center, and this Centers' predecessors, NIMH-funded advanced and developing Centers (P30MH090322; P20MH078178). She has also partnered with the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) for over two decades, and leads the Evidence-Based Treatment Dissemination Center (EBTDC), and has co-led the Community Technical Assistance Center, two OMH-funded training and technical assistance centers.
The IDEAS Center builds on the work of these advanced and developing centers, and is focused on developing tools and strategies to help states across the nation to better integrate cutting-edge scientific research evidence into their children's mental health policymaking process (Research Project 1). The Center is also designing and testing interventions to accelerate the quality of care for youth with the most serious mental health disorders, including those who visit emergency departments seeking mental health treatment (Research Project 2) for depression, and adolescents and young adults with first episode psychosis (Research Project 3).
Dr. Hoagwood's research portfolio includes numerous studies which examined the impact of family-to-family engagement and empowerment interventions, and testing strategies for improving the uptake and sustainability of these therapies within NYS school and outpatient clinics.
