One Day Intensive Training Opportunities​

​In February 2019, we debuted our newest training series:  One-Day Intensives!  We're excited to offer this new opportunity to take a deeper dive into specific clinical topics.  These trainings take place online & in-person, at different locations across New York State. 

They are free of charge to attend; note that only staff at OMH-licensed, public, child-serving agencies/programs in NYS may attend, and a $25 fee will apply for CEUs (5 CEUs per training).  Space is limited; enrollment is first come, first served.

Description
​The content of this training will include a review of assessment, diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment for Externalizing Disorders in children, with particular attention to ADHD and DBD. This will include a review of parent and teacher training and classroom modifications. 
Learning objectives
By the end of the training, participants will: 
  1. ​Have gained knowledge and skill in proper assessment and diagnosis techniques for Externalizing Disorders like ADHD and DBD in children,
  2. Have gained knowledge and skill in effective treatments for ADHD and DBD,

Supporting Needs of Autistic Youth
November 30, 2022
DESCRIPTION
Children and adolescents on the autism spectrum are commonly served by community mental health therapists and have unique needs.  Appropriate intervention is contingent upon identifying and understanding an individual’s full clinical picture. During today’s intensive, we review assessment of autism and co-occurring mental health challenges, symptoms of autism spectrum disorder, strategies for managing dysregulated behaviors, approaches to support social skills growth, and methods for adapting treatments to telehealth.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this training, attendees will accomplish at least one of the following:
  1. Understand core symptoms of autism and be able to identify one assessment tool
  2. Utilize one strategy to prevent challenging behaviors and/or
  3. Learn one skill to teach social skills to patients with autism

This training will cover school avoidance and refusal behavior, including differentiating school refusal from truancy, discussing the various causes of school refusal behavior, and how to intervene with the child, family, and school to get the best result.

This clinical intensive will cover a wide range of topics related to delivering exposure treatment for children and adolescents with anxiety.

Starting at the Beginning: Assessment for Common Mental Health Conditions in Children and Adolescents

The content of this training will include an overview of the importance of assessment and case conceptualization in treatment planning. It will review key aspects of assessment for both internalizing and externalizing disorders. Finally, it will focus on the assessment of functional impairment.
